Abstract:
The new annotated edition of Abraham’s sacrifice by the special scientists on modern Greek literature Wim Bakker and Arnold van Gemert, touches among others on the proofs of theatricality of the play and the time of its composition. Although the two editors are especially experienced philologists, they are not equally experienced in dealing with problems of dramatic composition or direction. Their arguments about a performance of the play in Crete is based on unsubstantiated conjectures, which cannot disprove the point that the play was not intended for staging. The estimation that the play was written in 1585 also cannot be right. The already put forward thesis about the year 1635, documented by the Nanian manuscript, has not been revised.
