Abstract:
This article provides an analysis of a German philhellenic tragedy, unknown in the special bibliography of literary works on philhellenism. Baron Ow is known for his diary of his stay in Athens at the court of Otto I (Aufzeichnungen eines Junkers am Hofe zu Athen, 2 vols., Pest etc. 1854) which was posthumously published. That means that also this tragedy was not published by himself. Most probably it was written during his stay at Athens. In 1837 Ow organised a production of “Nikiratos” of Evanthia Kairi at the court, in Greek with Greek amateur players. His play is obviously influenced by the patriotic drama of Kairi.
