Abstract:
The author publishes a hitherto unpublished document that he discovered in the General Archives of the State. It is the Greek part of a bilingual (written in both Greek and Slavonic) official letter (sigillium) addressed by the Serb Patriarch Anthimos IV to the congregation of the province of Nyssa, in which he explains his decision to attach the Serbian Church to the Patriarchate of Constantinople. The reasons that dictated this decision were both financial (i.e. the bankruptcy of the Serbian provinces) and political (i.e. the rising influence of Roman Catholicism in Serbia).
