The end of early bronze age in Palamari, Skyros : relations and chronological problems

This article is the publication of the same-titled paper, presented in the International Congress (Prehistoric Aegean and Connections with the Adjacent Area), Athens 1987. The evidence from the Paiamari excavation up to 1987 (the here published plan is the Sector B, as excavated in the years 1985-1991) shows a continuous transition from the Early Bronze II period to Middle Bronze 1. The presence of Lefkandi I type pottery, Trojan elements in the locally manufactured pottery, as well as the abundance of grey pottery render this excavation very important, concerning the chronological problems of the Early Bronze III period in the Aegean. The diffusion of Lefkandi I type pottery may be directly connected with Skyros, which develops indcpendantly, though parallely, to Euboea. Relations with North-East Aegean (Poliochni) and North-West Asia Minor (Troy) are clear already from the end of Early Bronze II period due, in great part, to the development of metal trading; Bronze and lead are presented in sufficient quantity in Paiamari. Connections of Paiamari with Poliochni and Troy are more intense in the Early Bronze III. The last phase of that period is marked by great rearrangements and changes, where old and new elements coexist; We believe that the Early Bronze III is a short, transitional phase with local particularities and is really the Early phase of Middle Bronze period.

Το κείμενο αυτό έχει εκφωνηθεί ως ανακοίνωση με τον ίδιο τίτλο στο 6ο Διεθνές Συνέδριο του Προϊστορικού Αιγαίου, που έγινε στην Αθήνα το καλοκαίρι του 1987, με θέμα "Το Προϊστορικό Αιγαίο και οι σχέσεις με τις γύρω περιοχές". Εξ αιτίας της μεγάλης καθυστερήσεως που σημειώνεται στην έκδοση των Πρακτικών κρίθηκε σκόπιμο να δημοσιευθεί εδώ το κείμενο, ώστε να μην ακυρωθεί η τυχόν συμβολή του στην έρευνα. Δεν έχουν γίνει αλλαγές, καθώς μάλιστα οι ανασκαφικές περίοδοι του 1990 και του 1991 επιβεβαίωσαν τη χρονολογική διαδοχή των φάσεων, όπως αυτές ορίσθηκαν στην ανακοίνωση και ενίσχυσαν τα δεδομένα για τις στενές σχέσεις που συνδέουν το Παλαμάρι με το Βορειοανατολικό Αιγαίο.Για την αναφερόμενη στο παρόν άρθρο κεραμεική "Τρωικού" τύπου, θα δημοσιευθεί μελέτη της υπογραφομένης στο ΑΔ 43 (1988) : Μελέται, με τίτλο "Τρωικά στοιχεία στην κεραμεική του Παλαμαριού Σκύρου" (υπό έκδοση)., Περιέχει 1 σχέδιο, συντομογραφίες και βιβλιογραφία, Το άρθρο περιέχεται στο τεύχος: Μέρος Α'-Μελέτες
