Abstract:
The wall-paintings of the first layer in the south portico (makrynariki) of the katholikon of the Timios Prodromos monastery, Serres, uncovered in 1986, preserve Menologion scenes that can be dated to the last decade of the fifteenth century or the early years of the sixteenth. Despite its mediocre condition, this ensemble is distinguished by the quality of its art. The historical and artistic value of the wall-paintings contributes to the study of monumental painting in the wider region of Macedonia.
