Abstract:
The paper deals with the architecture and the sculptural decoration of the church of the Dormition of the Virgin on the top of the hill of Episkopi (Ano Volos). From the original church of the second half of the 13th century-probably a variant of cross-plan type-remain only the eastern wall with the thiedral conch of the holy bema. The Byzantine church was completely reconstructed in 1639. The east and north facade are richly decorated with middle and late Byzantine marble spolia.
