The Russian iconography of the Transfiguration of Christ often received a specific form: at the top of the composition, the figures of Christ and the prophets Elijah and Moses are flanked by two scenes representing the same prophets and angels. Elijah floats on a cloud and Moses rises up from his tomb. Both scenes symbolize the participation of all Mankind in the Transfiguration of Christ and are based on allusions in the texts of the Church Fathers. There are also other examples in Russian icon-painting, in which the connection between the Old and New the Testaments is underlined.
