Abstract:
This article refers to the male and female attire as it appears in the artistic production of Thessaloniki from the third to the ninth century (tomb painting, mosaics in the Rotunda, St Demetrios, and Hagia Sophia, and the historical wall-painting in St Demetrios). It is ascertained that costume in Byzantium retained until the ninth century elements of the Roman tradition with slight differentiations.
