Cicero in the prefaces of his philosophical essays touches not only the subject he is going to discuss but also many other interesting points. In this short essay we examine what Cicero says about : 1) The problem of writing philosophy in the Latin language, 2) His reasons for writing philosophy, 3) The expediency of philosophy, 4) The method and the form he uses in writing his works, 5) The combination of philosophy with politics, and 6) The superiority of Latin over Greek language.
