Abstract:
In the narrative Thucydides" style is straightforward enough though always compact and rapid. But in the speeches and in some passages of the narrative, the historian strains the language to breaking — point in his effort to put the maximum of thouhgt into the minimum of words. In this article an attempt has been made to explain Thucydides' fondness for extreme brevity and other difficulties and peculiarities of his style.
