Abstract:
The program of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Komotini this year was the research of mountainous areas of Rodopi; thus the excavation at Linos, 13 km. NW from Komotini started. Three trial trenches were excavated at Tsoutska Tepe, the mound NW from the village. Parts of the foundation of an important building were discovered at the top of the mound; it was built with poros stones and was totally destroyed, while parts of two walls running N-S were found to the south. Pottery of the 4th century B.C. and a coin of Chersonese dated about 400-350 were found. Part of a surrounding wall running N-S was excavated at the eastern slope of the mound, while parts of rectangular and apsidal buildings were discovered at the eastern slope. The pottery found here is also dated to the 4th century B.C. and many of the coins are of Maroneia of the 4th-3rd century and two of Alexander.
