Abstract:
In 1990 the investigation was concentrated on the southern and eastern parts of the house which has been excavated since 1988. A triclinium, one of the most important rooms, was discovered in the eastern part. Only 1/3 of its total length was uncovered and it seems that it communicated with the eastern stoa (porch) of the central courtyard through a doorway, 2.40 m. wide. Other narrow openings gave access to the northern rooms. Its floor was covered with a poorly preserved mosaic decorated with geometric motives. A built bench (0.35 m. wide) was built across the northern wall after the construction of the house. The floors of the eastern and the slightly narrower southern porches of thecourtyard were also equipped with mosaics with geometric motives. The investigation of the western stoa yielded evidence about successive archaeological layers until the8th century A.D. The excavation at the central part of the courtyard yielded also interesting evidence: originally there was a phiale which was later replaced, maybe in the early 7thcentury A.D. by a cistern built in the southern side. The courtyard was turned into a house towards the end of the 8th century A.D. Walls were built between the columns, while three strong pillars supported the staircase leading to the first floor. We do not know whether another area was turned into a courtyard. Lamps of the 5th and 6th centuries, other household utensils and two Ionic capitals were among the finds.
