Abstract:
In 1989 the research was extended to the east and south. Thus, 22 m. of via Egnatia and the rooms of the eastern part of the house extended southwards to the eastern porch of the big courtyard were excavated. The building material of via Egnatia has been robbed, while traces of fire were discovered in the northeastern rooms of the house and the kitchen. East from the building block and off via Egnatia, a street, 4 m. wide, was excavated (side street C); this street was equipped with a sewer (0,60 m. wide and 1,65 m. deep) along its length. The excavational data suggest four main building phases of the house: a) the first with a stoa (porch) at the northern side of the building, b) the second in the mid-4thcentury A.D., when the house was extended to the north, c) the third, during which the northern rooms were converted into storehouses and the house was divided into two smaller ones: the bigger was extended to the eastern stoa of the courtyard, while the other occupied the southern part. The northwestern part was only used after the earthquake in 610-20 A.D. It was a small house with a kitchen, a lavatory and storehouses, which was in use until the 9th-10th centuries.
