Abstract:
An extended rescue excavation was carried out last summer in the northwestern part of the ancient city of Maroneia. The most significant find was the discovery of a private house, 780 sq. m. at «Ochthos», a site by the port of Hagios Charalambos, which is dated from the second half of the 4th to the beginning of the 2nd century B.C. The rooms of the house are organized along the northern and the western sides of a court-yard equipped with colonnades. The character of the northern rooms was formal: their walls were coated with coloured plasters, while a layer used to support mosaic floors was found in three of them. The western rooms met the everyday needs; one of them yielded a stone pipe. A hollow cistern with walls and bottom covered with tiles and potsherds was discovered in the northwestern part of the court-yard. The eastern and southern boundaries of the house have not been discovered yet
