Abstract:
The mosaic floor of a Hellenistic house ( 2nd century B.C. ) was recently uncovered in the property of No. 95 ( D/10 ) at Eretria. The central subject is bounded by a circle in the middle of a rectangle of white pebbles. A Triton riding a hippocamp ( sea-horse ) is holding a paddle in his left hand and is throwing a stone with his raised right hand ( fi g s. 1 - 2 ).B. Petrakos who had found part of the mosaic thought that it represented Dionysos on a panther.
