Abstract:
The excavation of the archaic pottery workshop situated at the site called Phari, on the southwestern coast of Thasos, continued in 1986 and 1987. The large kiln partly uncovered in 1985 was completely excavated, and a smaller one came to light at less than 5 m. to the south. In the eastern sector of the site, part of a rectangular structure was found, built over a deposit of Laconian typetiles. Immediately to the south, different elements of a decantation complex comprising a cistern and at least one decantation bassin were also excavated. New pottery shapes were recovered which add to the already known vases produced at this workshop and seem to indicate that the workshop was active between the last quarter of the 6th and the first half of the 5th c. BC.
