Abstract:
In this article we argue against the view that Plato treats Thrasymachus unjustly by presenting him in a way that gives rise to misunderstanding of both his views and his character. We show that Plato tries by every means to make clear that Thrasymachus does not express his own views on justice, but is describing with realism and deep regret what he sees around him. At the same time throughout the dialogue Plato helps the reader to see clearly the almost unorthodox methods by which Socrates tries unsuccessfuly to exploit Thrasymachus' positions.
